Review of GSP Family Tree Maker 2006 Genealogy software as used by your-familytree.com

When researching your family tree you are guaranteed one thing, a lot of historical paperwork.  To make sense of all your historical information you require Genealogy software that will organise, manage and help you build your family tree.

We here at www.your-familytree.com completed an initial review of the Genealogy software mentioned above, and after reviewing the product features we decided to choose GSP Family Tree Maker to record our family tree information.

Family Tree Maker 2006 is a good all-rounder program that is easy to use and install.  This Genealogy software has improved as the years have gone by and it now has a more professional feel, but at the same time keeping it simple to use.  The best improvements have been the source management, more room for research notes and stronger integration and merging individuals that have been found via online databases at Ancestry.  If you are a novice in Genealogy or a seasoned researcher this software is worth a go. The pedigree views available offer you an easier insight into your family tree and with the amount of charts available, you certainly won’t get confused.  Charts available via the charting companion are ancestor charts, fan charts, box charts , wall charts and book reports.  Overall this software is an excellent solution in organizing your family history and keeping a well balanced family tree. 

Unfortunately there are a couple of negative features with family tree maker 2006.  Firstly, there is no feature to export your family tree to HTML internet readable web pages; the software will only let you publish pages on family tree maker’s website.  We have found that the best alternative way to produce HTML pages from your family tree software is to export your family tree to a GEDCOM file and utilise either GED4WEB or GENOPRO.  Together these make a complete package where you can have your family tree available on the web for all to see.  Secondly, the other negative feature about family tree maker 2006 is that there is no chart available within the software package to display everyone within your family tree.   You may find yourself having to outsource a print to get the full picture of your family tree.  This outsourcing is definitely viable option, especially if you have discovered a lot of ancestors during your in-depth research.  For printing your complete family tree, then visit www.genealogyprinters.co.uk who is probably the United Kingdom’s leading family tree printing companies.  Genealogy printers was chosen by the BBC to print family tree’s as shown on the Historical TV Programme – “Who Do You Think You Are”
