Review of GED4WEB Genealogy software as used by your-familytree.com

Whilst creating Family Tree Research packages for our clients, we required a piece Genealogy Software that would create web pages (.htm) from a GEDCOM file that had been created by Family Tree Maker 2006 software.

We needed this conversion to a webpage format so that our clients received their Family Tree Research pack which had a more professional finish, and their newly found Family History was easy to share with other family members via the internet.  After all, who wants to pass out three or four family history dossier packs that are meant to be kept as a proud family heirloom?  Letting other family members view pedigree or ancestor charts via the internet is such a more viable option these days.

During the two years that www.your-familytree.com has been utilising GED4WEB Genealogy software to show Family Tree Packages on the internet, we have found the software to be a vital tool within our business and have created many .htm pages, that has covered thousands of family members over hundreds of surnames. 

The software itself is set at a good affordable price and it is simplistic to use.  The presentation of the homepage created by GED4WEB software is basic but straight to the point – you get what you need to see.  If need be, you can always tweak the Genealogy homepage presentation to suit your needs with any web editor software.

The standard homepage created by GED4WEB comprises of the following:-

• Family pages – complete with surname index (A thru` Z). Displays immediate family ties consisting of an individual, his or her parents, spouse, spouse's parents and children

• Pedigree pages – complete with surname index (A thru` Z).  Displays the family tree graphically beginning with the individual with the latest birth date

• Notes pages – complete with surname index (A thru` Z)

• Descendancy pages – complete with surname index (A thru` Z).  The page layout graphically displays an individual and their direct descendants.  It includes gender, birth date and place, death date and place.  Marriage information can be shown for each individual.

The Genealogy home page that is generated also gives you a rundown of how many individuals, families and surnames are in total in your Family tree Package.

Security options are available in the software package in order to protect the privacy of individuals.  You have the option to suppress birth and marriage dates which protects the security of individuals still living.  This option lets you choose the years (born after 1900 and/or married after 1920 for example) to begin suppressing birth dates and marriage dates.
