While many students dream of obtaining a college degree, other responsibilities in life sometimes become bigger priorities. This is especially true for single parents who must juggle family and work. Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) is unique to Arkansas. We help make a positive difference in the lives of low-income, single-parent families.

Research tells us that well over half of low-income families in Arkansas are led by single parents. Your own educational level has a huge impact on your children. Kids who live in low-income, single parent families, are much more likely than their other classmates to have trouble in school and eventually drop out of high school. This impact has grown worse over the past four decades.

This affects the entire community. Not just that one family.

But, when you make enough money to support your family and when you are able to give them greater opportunities, you help to mold your child’s future success – so that one day they will also be able to take care of themselves and their family.

Your own education is one of the best ways to make that happen.

More than just a check

We’re here to help you get that well-paying career of your dreams. We invest our time and money directly into you - the single parent. The goal of Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund is to help create a safety net around you while you pursue your education.

We begin by learning about you, your dreams, and your needs. We give you discretionary money to use as you see fit – to pay for the simple things that create the biggest barriers between you and your education – things like childcare, gas, car maintenance, food, housing, and utilities. And then we connect you with wrap-around services to help fill any gaps, to make sure you feel safe and secure while you’re going to school. These other services might include things like career or financial planning, living assistance referral, mentoring, and more.

Over time we have learned that this more personal approach not only helps you get the education you need for the career you want, but it also helps you provide better opportunity for your family.

We invest in generations.

When your child sees you studying and working hard for your certificate or degree, investing in yourself, they learn to value themselves. They learn to value an education. They begin to see their own college education in reach. College becomes "something my family does” instead of “something my family doesn’t get to do." With more education, the entire family begins to see opportunity where none seemed to exist before.
